SpaceX's Falcon 1 makes orbit after four attempts - Engadget

History was created while you were enjoying your weekend. SpaceX’s Falcon 1 made its successful launch and first orbit. Why is this special? Because Falcon1 is the first privately-funded/privately-created rocket running on liquid fuel to successfully get out into the space. This is amazing! This means, if you want to do killer-cutting-edge research in space, and want to send some payload, you can do that even when NASA doesn’t have room in their next shuttle. Of course, you’ll be shelling out some big dough, but if your project is that important, I’m sure the cash wouldn’t be a problem :) May be someday I’ll be sending bricks up there and start building my cozy little casa right next to a comet. That’d be cool.
